The problem
What the customer was facing
With no factory shaft available and the processing season underway, the customer faced either a long lead time or an unplanned equipment replacement.
Inspection findings
- Shaft damaged at the seal and bearing fits
- Corrosion in the sleeve area consistent with seawater duty
- Existing bearing housing and casing serviceable
What IPA did
- Damaged shaft measured and detailed from the original component
- New shaft machined in a material suited to seawater service
- New sleeve machined and fitted
- Mechanical seal replaced and set correctly on reassembly
- Unit reinstalled and started on site
Testing and verification
- Trial fit against the existing assembly
- Runout verification on assembly
- On-site startup observations
Outcome
Result
The pump was returned to service in a fraction of the replacement lead time and the customer finished the season on the original equipment.
